CD Buy List

Being a list of CDs that Ben is looking for

I don’t like buying things online unless I really, really have to. The reasons for this demand a navel-gazing essay of their own sometime, but ultimately they’re immaterial. The upshot is that I often have a number of CDs that I’m looking for when I hop down to Criminal Records to spend some money. This page contains a list of those CDs, both as a reference for myself and as a list of gift ideas for anyone who happens to want to spend money on me.

Arliss Parker — Handsome Like a Lion
Review from Sara sounds interesting
The Bird and the Bee — One Too Many Hearts
Anyone who can cover the Bee Gees and make it good is a win in my book. Seriously, I’ve loved everything I’ve heard from these two.
Björk — Homogenic
How is it that I do not own this album?
Björk Guðmundsdóttir & Trió Guðmundar Ingólfssonar — Gling-Gló
Mostly I love that I can type the entire name on my keyboard, but I really do want to hear this unusual Björk work.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds — From Her to Eternity and Let Love In
I don’t know any Nick Cave, but they’re a classic who frequently get compared with other bands I like, so I figure I should at least grab the ones recommended by AllMusic Guide
Einstürzende Neubauten — Haus der Lüge and Fünf auf der nach oben offenen Richterskala
There’s some really great potential in Kollaps and Perpetuum Mobile, but neither one of them quite realizes it for me. Judging from the AllMusic Guide reviews, these two might pull it off.
PJ Harvey — Uh Huh Her
PJ Harvey release. I do not have it. I must have it.
Liars — They Were Wrong, So We Drowned
I love my other Liars albums, but I haven’t found this one locally yet.
Mr. Meeble — Never Trust the Chinese
Very positive review from Sara; sounds interesting
Scout Niblett — Kidnapped by Neptune
I love Scout, but I haven’t found this album locally yet.
Portishead — Portishead
Love their other albums, but somehow I don’t have this one yet.
The Red Paintings — Feed The Wolf and Angel Flummox
These are Australian imports and may be tougher to find, but I really liked them live and the one EP of theirs that I have, so I’d like to try some of their other work. Other albums from this band could be interesting as well; I currently own only Destroy the Robots.
Tracy Shedd — Cigarettes & Smoke Machines
Interesting review from Sara
Patti Smith — Trampin’
I’ve recently found myself obsessed with Patti Smith. I must own everything she’s done. This is the next one on the list.
Regina Spektor — 11:11 and Songs
Out of print and harder to come by, but I loves me some Regina.
Shannon Wright — Flightsafety
I’ve recently acquired some of this local’s work, and I’m still trying to get a feel for it. So far I’m a happy listener, so it’s time to add more.
Thom Yorke — The Eraser
I love him with Radiohead, and I’ve heard some good things about this solo album. I’ll bite.
